“Dumb And Dumber To”, the sequel to the enormously popular 1994 film starring Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey, has reportedly found a new home with Red Granite and Universal Pictures.
The movie has been in talks for a while now, but Carrey said last year that he didn’t think it was going to happen. Fans of the original–and of Carrey’s–wondered how he could turn down such a plum role, especially when his career has been a little lackluster in recent years. But Carrey said though he was interested, he didn’t feel movie execs were into the idea, and he didn’t want to keep pitching to a lackluster response. Ultimately, it got pitched to Warner Brothers and things were looking up, but the studio dropped it last week, leaving room for Universal to jump in and snatch it up.
Now, it seems, the movie has been given new life, and both Carrey and Daniels are said to be returning to their roles of Lloyd and Harry. The Farrelly brothers are also returning, both in director status and as writers, as they’ve redone the script.
