“Breaking Amish” has gotten some heat for not being as reality-based as it claims to be, and the latest news about one of its stars may do nothing to quell those rumors.
The show’s former star, Kate Stoltzfus, is now an aspiring model and recently stripped down to a pair of skimpy shorts and a midriff-baring top for a Maxim photo shoot. At first, she admitted, she was shy about showing skin, but now it’s not that big a deal.
“Before I had even signed a contract with a modeling agency, I did a test shoot to see if I could photograph well, and the first outfit they put me in was a bathing suit!” she said in the Maxim interview. “I have to admit it was a little intimidating, but now I enjoy doing it.”
Stoltzfus says that coming from an Amish family may have helped her retain a good physique due to their lifestyle and eating choices.
“There are definitely a lot of Amish women who have great bodies, because they work hard. They also eat really healthy, since they grow their own food. That’s one big thing I miss about home, being able to garden and take care of plants.”
According to the New York Daily News, the makers of the show found out during the first season that at least one cast member was less than truthful about their past.
“The makers of “Breaking Amish” are probing how at least one member of the hot TLC reality show’s cast — supposedly fresh-faced Amish and Mennonites who had never been exposed to the outside world — hid the fact that this person had already lived outside the closed community, got married, had children and was divorced. A source close to the show told The News that as filming went on, it became clear that this cast member, and possibly another one, had misrepresented themselves,” the article read.
Stoltzfus hasn’t commented on those accusations, but it’s possible that she’ll take some criticism for appearing in the men’s magazine regardless. A source told Us Magazine that she’s already moving away from the show that brought her into the public eye.
“Kate hates her cast mates from Breaking Amish,” a source told Us of Stoltzfus’ fellow costars Abe Schmucker, Rebecca Byler, Sabrina High and Jeremiah Raber. “She has no camaraderie with them, she can’t really relate anymore. She has big dreams and they aren’t in line with everyone else.”
