Emilia Clarke, who plays badass dragon-mother Daenerys Targaryen on the HBO hit “Game Of Thrones”, has had quite a year; as one of the most popular characters on the show, she’s been enjoying a sudden shoot to fame on a breakout show. Now, as she heads out to the San Diego Comic-Con to reign over her thousands of fans, she has a new reason to be happy: an Emmy nomination for her work.
“6 a.m. rolls around, and my alarm in the hotel went off, and I definitely didn’t set it — definitely, definitely,” she told Entertainment Weekly of getting the news. “So I went into a frenzy, throwing everything I could at all of the electrical appliances in the room trying to make whatever noise was going on stop. Then I saw my phone and I was like, Ah! Oh my goodness, hopefully the show got nominated because I had a sleepless night praying Dan and David would get nominated for writing. Because I just think they deserve it so much. So it took a couple of phone calls for me to actually hear from my publicist that I myself was also nominated. And then I cried. It’s all quite too much to handle.”
Further adding to her adorableness, Clarke said she wasn’t as concerned with her own nomination as she was for the writers of the show.
“The more scripts that I read in my acting, the more I’m reminded of the genius that is David and Dan. I just think they are phenomenal, and I think the writing that they do is incredible. I’m so, so, so proud of them. And I got nominated with them. I’m happier for them more than myself,” she said with a laugh.
Clarke will be attending a panel discussion today at Comic-Con with several of her co-stars, including John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark), Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Rose Leslie (Ygritte), and Richard Madden (Robb Stark).
