For all the praise the Star Wars franchise gets for its technical accomplishments and memorable characters, the one thing the movies wouldn’t be the same without is the music. The John Williams-composed score of Star Wars is now as iconic as anything in movie history, and even critics of the Star Wars prequels agree that Williams’ music was fantastic.

Fans will be happy to learn, then that Williams will be returning to compose the score for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed Williams’ involvement this weekend at the Star Wars Celebration Europe event. Though the announcement could not be entirely unexpected, it is yet another confirmation that a new, real Star Wars movie is on the way.

The 81-year-old Williams, who has won five Academy Awards for his work on movies such as Star Wars, Jaws, and the Indiana Jones movies, is currently working with Star Wars: Episode VII director J.J. Abrams. In the interview below, Williams states that he has not seen a screenplay for the movie yet and that he actually prefers it that way.

“I’m waiting anxiously like the audience around the world to find out what the surprises are and discover what my continuing role is going to be,” said Williams.

Star Wars: Episode VII is currently set for a 2015 release.
