Netflix User Profiles Officially Launched
Written by Chris Crum

After testing the feature for months (at least), Netflix has now officially announced the launch of user profiles. You can now create profiles for up to five people.

You can customize profiles with various available icons, or connect it to Facebook, and it will use your Facebook profile photo.

Here’s a walkthrough of how it works:

With the profiles, each person gets suggestions for what to watch and rate specifically based on their own viewing habits. In other words, no more getting suggestions based on what your kids have been watching. The profiles will also include separate “Recently Watched” and “Instant Queue” lists.

When you connect a profile to Facebook, you can also get suggestions from your Facebook friends.

Netflix started demoing profiles at E3 earlier this summer, and this week, users started seeing them on Apple TV devices. Now, Netflix is rolling out the feature on most Netflix devices, including the website, iPad, iPhone, PS3, Xbox 360, Apple TV and newer Smart TVs and Blu-Ray players. More devices like Android phones and tablets and the Nintendo Wii will get the feature soon.

You can add more profiles on the website and the PS3 for now, and you can select profiles on any of the devices it’s rolling out to.
