Mumford And Sons may be Grammy-winning musicians who rose to fame fairly quickly after the release of “Sigh No More”, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a sense of humor about themselves. And to prove it, they hired some very popular actors to play them in the new video for “Hopeless Wanderer”, which debuted on Sunday and is making the viral rounds.
The song–off the band’s award-winning sophomore album “Babel”–is typical Mumford: banjo-heavy, with lovely lyrics and a beat that makes you want to stomp along with Marcus. Only, Marcus isn’t in the video. Instead, he’s played by SNL alum Jason Sudeikis, and his pals Jason Bateman, Ed Helms, and Will Forte are along to round out the band members.
It starts out normal enough, with an old-fashioned title-card announcing the song and a shot of a field drenched in late-afternoon sun. We see the guys in their usual dress, warming up their instruments, but it soon becomes clear that there are imposters in the mix. And while they play along to the beginning of the song really well, after a few moments they start the shenanigans that we love them for.
Check out the video below, which includes the entire “band” sitting in a tiny rowboat with all their instruments…including that huge stand-up bass.
