Video on Instagram was already off to a stellar start in June with 5 million videos uploaded in the first 24 hours of its existence. The Vine competitor even has its own bite-sized news service. Now Instagram is making it even easier to share video.

In an announcement on its blog, Instagram announced that users can now import video directly from their media library. What this means is that you no longer have to capture the video with the Instagram app to upload it to the service. You can even create professional 15-second videos and upload them to the service to shame all the amateurs making 15-second odes to their spaghetti.

Another feature exclusive to iOS (for now) is automatic straightening. This feature will ensure that all of your photos are free from the crooked shot that plagues so many would-be photographers. With a simple tap of the Straighten icon, your photos will now be completely level. The tool also includes a slider for more precise adjustments.

It would be unsporting to leave Android out in the cold so Instagram announced expanded support for more devices. Android devices running Android 4.0, or Ice Cream Sandwich, can now use Video for Instagram. With this expansion, it can better compete with Vine as both now support Android 4.0. It’s probably impossible to add video support for Android 2.3, but it would be a pretty big win if one of the two figured out how to do it.

Instagram 4.1 should be available today on Apple’s App Store and Google Play. It’s not up there yet, but we’ll update this story when it goes live.
