Amanda Bynes has been ordered by a judge to continue her stay in a psychiatric facility for another 30 days. The troubled former child star’s finances and personal belongings are now under a conservatorship held by her parents, who requested to be put in charge of their daughter’s estate until at least the end of September.
The ruling comes after a particularly bizarre year for the young star; after moving to New York from L.A., Bynes began grabbing headlines last year with her odd public behavior and several arrests, some of which were for DUIs. She eventually began turning to Twitter with strange commentary–such as calling out several celebrities and members of her own family for being ugly–and pictures of herself in various stages of undress. She also became obsessed with plastic surgery and reportedly had several procedures done to her nose.
Bynes didn’t attend the conservatorship hearing today, as her doctors believe she isn’t well enough to leave their care. Her parents have said that she became increasingly paranoid in recent months, claiming that there were devices in smoke detectors and even the dashboard of her car to watch her. The involuntary hospital stay came last month after she set a fire in a stranger’s driveway in California, harming her own dog in the process.
“We are deeply concerned that Amanda poses a substantial risk to herself, to others, and to property based on recent events in her life,” Richard and Lynn Bynes said in their statement to the judge.
