Overkill Games’ co-op first-person shooter opus is in stores now (digital and tangible), and to celebrate the occasion, the release of Payday 2 also features an impressive, cinematic-style trailer that gives players an idea of what’s in store for them. Granted, the game won’t be presented in such fashion, but you get the gist. While it may not be enjoying Dota 2-like numbers regarding players, a quick at the Payday 2’s Steam Hub page reveals over 50,000 players are currently enjoying the new release.
For comparison’s sake, there are currently over 250,000 people playing Dota 2. Meanwhile, there are only 10,000-plus people playing Black Ops 2. Clearly, gamers are excited about the new Payday. For those who are wondering what they can look forward to as they continue to take down scores of various shapes and sizes, the developers reveal they have a year’s worth of Payday 2 DLC on tap, including the introduction of a female character:
“There’s like a year of DLC planned… one of the first things I have on my list, is to make sure we get a female character. I’m hoping – I don’t know if we’ll get it as our first DLC, because we’d have to redo all the animations so it doesn’t look like a dude walking around with a female body. But I’d like to do that… [Overkill’s David Goldfarb] added, “Believe me, I have said this and we’ve talked about it, so I think it will happen, it’s just a question of when on the timeline.”
Payday 2 is available now on multiple platforms (PC, PS3, Xbox 360), and unlike many new releases, it only costs $29.99 for the Steam copy, and $39.99 for the physical console release.
