An enormous sinkhole in Assumption Parish, Louisiana swallowed several trees on Wednesday and the entire thing was caught on video.
The sinkhole, which was first documented last year, has only grown in size over the past several months. The trees it takes down go completely underwater in a matter of seconds in the eerie video, vanishing like a magician’s illusion as though they had never been there. It’s not clear at this point just how deep the sinkhole is.
The area has been evacuated for the safety of the residents, although the Assumption Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness says that none of the homes nearby are in danger.
Several sinkholes have opened up across the country in recent months, especially in the southern states. Florida has been hit especially hard, with at least one death after a massive hole opened up right beneath a man’s house. In July, a sinkhole opened up on a busy roadway in Toledo and sucked a car into itself; the driver was uninjured.
