Giuliana Rancic and her husband Bill have gone through a lot in recent years; Giuliana suffered through a battle with breast cancer in 2011 and the couple tried to conceive a child on their own for several months, but to no avail. When they finally had baby Duke via surrogate last summer, they were ecstatic and immediately said they wanted to add to their family if at all possible; now, it looks like they’re ready again.
Using the same gestational mother they used with Duke, the Rancics are getting things in place for baby number 2.
“We’ve got our [gestational] carrier, who carried Duke — she’s on board! Having a brother or sister in the house is definitely in the future for Duke,” they told Life & Style Magazine.
Bill has said that while they would have loved to be able to conceive on their own, in the end it didn’t matter; they were in love the moment they met him.
“It doesn’t matter how you get your little baby. When you’re holding the baby in your arms and you see their smile, it doesn’t matter,” he said.
Bill credits Duke with saving Giuliana’s life, because she underwent a mammogram when they were going through rounds of IVF treatment in order to conceive, which is how they discovered she had breast cancer.
“Technically this baby saved her life because had she not gone through IVF — the doctor made it mandatory that she get a mammogram — they would have never found what they found so we owe this little guy debt of gratitude and I’m sure he’ll never let you forget it!” he said.
The couple have said that they would love to try to conceive naturally in the future, but Giuliana has to wait until she’s done with her cancer treatment, which will take a few years.
