Grand Theft Auto Five Sales Exceed $1 Billion

The Grand Theft Auto games by Rockstar have always been popular, and for anyone doubting how strong the gaming industry is, they need to look no further than Grand Theft Auto Five’s record-setting sales. The new Grand Theft Auto game has reportedly sold $1 billion worth of games in the three days since it was launched.

The $1 billion in sales in three days makes Grand Theft Auto Five the highest selling video game or film within the same timeframe. As impressive as the $1 billion mark is, it’s no surprise, considering GTA V had $800 million in sales on the day it launched. “Grand Theft Auto is a cultural phenomenon and Rockstar Games continues to redefine what can be achieved in interactive entertainment,” said Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, the distributor of the video game. “We are incredibly proud of the extraordinary critical and commercial response to Grand Theft Auto V.”

Grand Theft Auto V, which is available on the PS3 and Xbox 360, is set in fictional San Andreas and players switch between three characters to participate in races, pull heists and otherwise engage in various forms of violence. Read an in-depth synopsis and review on IGN, where the game received a 10/10 rating and was described as being “Grand in every sense.”

While $1 billion in sales in three days sounds like a lot for a video game, one needs to look no further than Twitter to see how popular the game is. Using the hashtag #GTAV, there are currently dozens of user updates per minute. If you’ve played GTA V, chime in with your opinion on the new game below.
