Pinterest is launching a new look for article pins, providing more information such as the headline, author, story description and link on the pin itself.
The new look is similar to what Pinterest did with recipe, movie and product pins a while back.
“We’re always looking for ways to make pins more useful so that when you discover and pin something great, it’s easy to act on it, whether that’s cooking a dish, watching a movie, buying a new gadget or reading an article,” writes Pinterest software engineer Jon Parise in a blog post.
“When you come across articles you may not have time to read, or just want to keep for later, you can save them to your own reading list board,” says Parise. “For example, you may be reading a lot about healthy living, so you could save the most interesting articles to a healthy reading board.”
Pinterest says that over 5 million articles are pinned every day. Obviously the added info is a good thing for publishers, whose articles are being pinned. In the past, article pins have looked just like any other image pins, and publishers simply had to hope that users would take the time to click through to find that there is an actual article to accompany the image.
The new look is rolling out.
Earlier this month, the company revealed that it will soon be launching ads.
