This season of Saturday Night Live (SNL) will be opening with a bang. Or maybe a malfunction, a wardrobe malfunction that is.
Creator of SNL, Lorne Michaels has gotten fan favorite and former cast member Tina Fey to host the season premiere this Saturday.
Michaels said, “We’re gonna do a good show. Every time Tina has come back, the show’s been great.”
During the same interview, Fey laughed off the comment, saying it was just a “coincidence” that she is guest hosting whenever they have a good show. Fey gave a few reasons why she’ll be helping make it a good show. “One, I have nothing to promote, so we’ve got plenty of time for other things. Two, I’m always happy to play straight person, so, hopefully, the cast will get to do more than when they have other kinds of hosts. You might get to see those new guys more. Although I’m not promising their parents anything,” said Fey.
Speaking of the new guys, there are six new cast members – Beck Bennett, John Milhiser, Kyle Mooney, Mike O’Brien, Noel Wells and Brooks Wheelan – filling the void that Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, and Jason Sudeikis created when they left the show after last season.
Michaels gets serious when he talks about those that have left the show, but said, “You feel really proud that they’re as good as they are, and that you were part of that. But Saturday Night Live has always been about reinvention, and we’re doing it again. That’s what keeps the show alive.”
Speaking of that malfunction, Fey makes fun of her nip slip from Sunday’s Emmy Awards show in a promo. You can watch that promo for this Saturday’s season premiere in the video below.

Always the busy guy, Michaels will be adding The Tonight Show to his list of duties that already include SNL and Late Night. When Jimmy Fallon takes over hosting duties at The Tonight Show, current Weekend Update anchor Seth Meyers will take over as host of Late Night. According to Michaels, Meyers will be joined by cast member Cecily Strong at the Update desk. “Count on Seth through February and I think he knows he can stay after that. It will be up to him to assess if he can handle the workload,” said Michaels.
The SNL season premiere is Saturday, September 28 at 11:30 p.m. on NBC, with host Fey and musical guest Arcade Fire.
