Julianne Moore is the most recent covergirl for Health Magazine, and the 52-year old actress looks as beautiful and fit as always. But, she says, it doesn’t come easily.

Moore talked about her workout style with the mag as well as some remedies for pain that aren’t for everyone.

“I try to do Ashtanga yoga two to three times a week. I’ve also started working out with a trainer, doing light weights and a lot of jumping around,” she said. “I paddle board. But it’s not the kind of exercise people say it is. I think you have to really paddle hard. But if you’re just gliding along like I am, then no! The main problem is I can’t do anything six days straight because I get hurt. That’s the thing about old age—eventually your hip starts to hurt and you have to switch to do something else.”

The “Carrie” actress says she began turning to a different form of relief after her mother died; during that time, she says, she had trouble sleeping and her nerves were frayed. But acupuncture, the ancient Chinese medical practice that involves a practitioner sticking hundreds of tiny needles into one’s skin. And although it sounds painful, the technique is actually not that invasive, and many people say they have had success with it.

“For back pain, it’s amazing. I also had a period after my mother died where I couldn’t sleep. I mean, I was just in shock for the longest time and didn’t sleep for, like, a year. I was just a wreck. And I had some really intense acupuncture treatments, and it kind of reset my nervous system. So I think it’s very helpful.”

Moore has been a very busy lady of late; according to IMDB, she’s got five films in the works before 2015, including “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay”, parts 1 and 2.
