The Boston Red Sox were more than ready for the St. Louis Cardinals for Game 1 of the World Series Wednesday. The Red Sox beat the Cardinals 8-1 at Fenway Park.
For those who watched, the Cardinals created enough errors to give the advantage to the Red Sox.
During the first inning the Red Sox scored three runs after Mike Napoli doubled with bases loaded.
Errors charged to Cardinals shortstop Pete Kozma allowed two more runs for the Red Sox in the second inning. Kozma wasn’t the only Cardinal causing problems for the Cardinal defense. Shane Robinson, Adam Wainwright, Yadier Molina, and David Freese all created defense issues that helped the Red Sox pull off a win.
A 5-0 lead after the second inning isn’t good, but this is baseball and anything can happen. Except it didn’t for the Cardinals this time.
David Ortiz, aka Big Papi, continued to add runs to the scoreboard for the Red Sox. Big Papi hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning.
Jon Lester is the real hero of the game. Lester went 7 2/3 innings, allowing no runs, eight strike-outs, only five hits, no extra base hits, and one walk.
After the big win, fans and foes alike took to Twitter.
Pretty much expected Lester and the #RedSox to dominate Game 1 and they did. Skunked the Cards 8-1. #WorldSeries
