67-year-old, John McVie, the bassist for Fleetwood Mac, has been diagnosed with cancer, according to a statement released on the group’s Facebook page. They will also be cancelling their Australia and New Zealand tour while their group member undergoes treatment for the disease.
“Fleetwood Mac, who has just completed the European leg of their phenomenally successful worldwide tour, has announced the cancellation of their upcoming 14-date tour of Australia and New Zealand,” group members Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham wrote on October 27. “John McVie, one of the co-founding and original members of Fleetwood Mac, is now scheduled to be in treatment for cancer during that period of time.”
They continued their statement by apologizing and asking for the love and support of their fans during this difficult time.
“We are sorry to not be able to play these Australian and New Zealand dates. We hope our Australian and New Zealand fans as well as Fleetwood Mac fans everywhere will join us in wishing John and his family all the best.”
Fleetwood Mac had just finished their European tour and the New Zealand and Australia shows were scheduled through December 7. They are also currently scheduled to perform in Las Vegas on December 30. So far, there has no word on the cancellation of this show.
