In this week’s Thursday night game, the Miami Dolphins faced off against the Cincinnati Bengals, in a showdown that ended up going into overtime. The Dolphins were able to pull away with a victory in the end, scoring on a game-winning safety. The safety gave them the win with a final score of 22-20.

The Miami Dolphins started the season off well, with a 3-0 start, only to drop their next 4 games. At 3-4, their season was already starting to look dreadful, but this game might have saved their season. The Bengals are at the top of their division, and were certainly the favorites to win the game last night, at 6-2 going into the game. While the Dolphins were on a 4 game losing streak, the Bengals had won their previous 4 games.

The game concluded with a sack from defensive end Cameron Wake, who delivered the safety to Andy Dalton with 6:38 left in overtime. Dalton retreated to the goal line on 3rd-and-10, and was tackled by Wake for only the third safety in overtime in the history of the NFL.

After his strong statement of a sack to end the game, Wake of the Miami Dolphins said “You just have to do whatever you can to get to the quarterback. It couldn’t have come at a better time. How much better could it have been than to have a d-lineman seal the deal?” Dalton is obviously embarrassed to end the game on that note, and mentioned that he did not see him coming, and also thought that he was out of the end-zone.

The defense of the Dolphins really stepped up in this game, holding the Bengals to only 20 points, and getting multiple scores from the defense. Before the safety to end the game, the Dolphins also scored on an interception return for a TD in the third quarter. Their cornerback Brent Grimes caught a pass from quarterback Andy Dalton and was able to return the ball 94 yards, giving them a 17-3 lead.

This score gave Grimes his first touchdown, and was also the fourth-longest interception return in the history of the Miami Dolphins franchise.

At a record of 4-4, the Miami Dolphins will go into next week hoping to get another win, and be able to turn their season around. It should not be too hard to do so, since their next game is against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who have not won a game all season.
