The 2014 People’s Choice Awards nominees are out now, and that includes the five nominees for the Favorite Streaming Series category.
Believe it or not, Netflix has a presence here (I know, hard to believe considering its shows already garnered fourteen Emmy nominations and three wins). Hemlock Grove isn’t present this time, but Arrested Development, House of Cards and Orange is the New Black are competing against one another for the prize, along with Between Two Ferns With Zach Galifianakis and Losing It With John Stamos.
Common thinking is that OITNB would have been nominated for some Emmys if it were released in time, and is largely expected to have a presence at next year’s awards, so it’s no surprise to see it nominated for a PCA.
As far as these awards go, the streaming category should only get more interesting in years to come as more players offer more high quality streaming content (look for titles from Amazon and Hulu, for example, not to mention a whole lot more from Netflix).
