Move over Tiger; there’s a new beast in town. Victor Dubuisson, the 23-year-old golfer from France, won the Turkish Open today by two shots.
Competing against the likes of experienced pros like Tiger Woods and Justin Rhodes, Dubuisson claimed his first European Tour victory by delivering three birdies in the last four holes.
Behind Dubuisson are some pretty hefty names in the golf world. Wales’ Jamie Donaldson secured his second-place finish by knocking in a hole-in-one on the 16th hole, with king of scandal Woods and US Open champ Justin Rose tied for third.
Dubuisson’s road to victory wasn’t without struggle; the Frenchie had his fair share of difficulties throughout the tournament. He dropped a shot on the 14th hole, allowing Donaldson to share some of the lead. Rose also worked his way to the top, creating a three-way tie for first. But Dubuisson proved victorious in the end.
“The start was a bit difficult because I did not hit the ball well and struggled on the greens, Dubuisson said in a press conference. “I didn’t hole any birdie putts on the front nine and all the good players were coming back at me. But I spoke to my caddie at the turn and told him everything is OK and I would make one or two birdies on the back nine.”
The hard work definitely paid off, as Dubuisson was given a check for £411,000, or about $657,000 for winning.
The Twittersphere was also chock full of golf fans excited about the win.
