Ben Affleck has taken a lot of crap lately about being cast as Batman in the upcoming “Batman Vs. Superman”, and while he’s trying to shrug off the backlash, his longtime friend (and noted comic connoisseur) Kevin Smith says fans shouldn’t be worried.
“I saw the Batman costume. More than that I saw a picture of him [Affleck] in the costume,” Smith said on his podcast. “You have not seen this costume in film before. Because every other movie has done this Matrix, X-Men black armor thing. There wasn’t a single nipple on this fricking suit. I think everyone is just gonna be like ‘Holy shit!’ It’s its own thing. Even the hardest core person will be like ‘Alright, I’m ready.’ For a comic book fan it was mind-bending. I’m already a flag waver for this movie, but the costume, it blew my mind.”
While Smith may be a bit biased considering who the leading man is, it’s true that he’s a genuine fanboy and can see with a critical eye when it comes to this new endeavor in the film’s long history, especially after all the criticism the previous entries have taken for the costume, the script, the acting, the casting…you get the idea.
As for Affleck, he’ll join Michael Keaton, George Clooney, Val Kilmer, and of course Christian Bale as the cowl-wearing do-gooder, and he says one of the best parts is that his kids will get to see their dad as a superhero.
“Every kid should see their dad as a superhero, right? It’s so awesome,” he said.
“Batman Vs. Superman” will see a July of 2015 release.
