When rumors that Taylor Swift had been dissed by Victoria’s Secret model Jessica Hart for her modeling abilities, fans quickly jumped to her defense. Swift performed at the Victoria’s Secret Angels Show and although she put on a great performance and looked stunning, people seemed to pay more attention the the comments about her modeling capabilities than her show.
Although Swift has never said that she wants to be a model, her performance at the show and friendship with several of the models seemed to get everyone talking. When model Jessica Hart was asked if she thought Swift would make a good Victoria’s Secret model, Hart said,
“I think, you know what, god bless her heart. I think she’s great,” Hart said. “But, I don’t know, to me, she didn’t fit. I don’t know if I should say that. I think what you find is that for a lot of us, we’ve been working for 14, 15 years; what it takes to make it here comes from experience and confidence and knowing how to be confident with yourself. I think it comes with age. It’s definitely the benchmark of all jobs.”
Although this may have seemed like a diss, Victoria’s Secret chief marketing officer Edward Razek, Hart, and even Swift herself insist that the comment was simply misinterpreted. Swift and Hart are actually good friends and Swift believes that Hart was not trying to put her down or say that she wouldn’t make a good model. Razek defended Hart by saying,
“I have personally been in contact with Jessica Hart and she said she was ‘wildly misinterpreted’ and that she thought Taylor was ‘amazing,’ ” Razek said. “She is stunned that anyone would think differently. And that’s something we can all agree on.”
“I can tell you that everyone at Victoria’s Secret was blown away by Taylor’s performance. She could not be more beautiful or talented, that we felt extremely lucky to have her, and that she is welcome back to do the show anytime she wants,” he added. “Taylor’s not ready to be an Angel? She’s more than ready to be anything she wants to be. I could not have more respect for this woman, or be more appreciative of her participation, and I can speak for the entire VS brand, the crew, and most certainly the Angels.”
Do you think Hart’s comment was misinterpreted or is Razek just covering up for the young model’s mistake?
