The American Music Awards aired live Sunday, November 24th, and was a night of jam-packed full of pop divas, skimpy outfits, and obvious wins. 2013 saw some of the most dominant forces in music returning to make stinkin’ catchy pop music, and the AMAs this year were all about celebrating these titans.
Big winners from the night include Rihanna, taking home the AMA Icon Award, as well as Favorite Female R&B Artist (beating fellow nominees Ciara and Alicia Keys). Taylor Swift won for Red, which held big singles such as “I Knew You Were Trouble” and the mega popular “22.” It’s no surprise that Favorite Male Pop and Favorite Male R&B Artist went to Justin Timberlake, who released two #1 albums this year, triumphing over Bruno Mars and Robin Thicke.

Imagine Dragons won Favorite Alternative Rock over Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers, which is fitting, since there’s probably an Imagine Dragons song playing on the radio right now.
You deserve it guys so much @Imaginedragons ♥ pic.twitter.com/LZYqCKb7Os

In an actually surprising win, One Direction’s Take Me Home beat out Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience for Favorite Pop Album (although, the album did win in Best R&B). The British boys also won in Favorite Pop/Rock Group. Pop darling Ariana Grande won the AMA’s Best New Artist, beating already winners that night, Macklemore and Imagine Dragons. Luke Bryan wins his second consecutive AMA for Favorite Male Country Artist (Taylor took home Female Country).
And of course, the biggest win of the night went again to Taylor Swift, for Artist of the Year. The award marks her 12th AMA win of her music career.
