Morena Baccarin was recently lauded by Jimmy Kimmel Live for her role on Homeland, but come September the actress will no longer be a series regular. Baccarin’s role as Jessica Brody has been downgraded significantly. In fact, her contract wasn’t even renewed. She has been given the option to appear as an occasional guest star on the show. Morgan Saylor, who plays Jessica Brody’s daughter Dana, was given the same option by Showtime.
Baccarin received an Emmy nomination in the best supporting actress category, but it doesn’t seem even that was enough to keep her around full time for season four. She was pregnant during most of season three and was pretty much nonexistent on the show. The storyline shifts during season three make it pretty much unnecessary for her to return at all.
The season three finale airs Sunday night. Do you expect the finale will be among the most talked about topics on Monday?
Alex Gansa explains why the show’s focus was on Dana during season three.
“Because Brody was not onscreen and not part of the story in those first couple of episodes, we really wanted to tell the aftermath of the bombing in a more personal way,” he said. “The relationship between Dana and her father is very strong. It’s stronger than his relationship with Jessica and certainly stronger than his relationship with [son] Chris [Jackson Pace].”
Viewers already sense that changes are coming in the Homeland cast.
