Fifty-year-old Keanu Reeves and 48-year-old Alex Winter have not written off the possibility of time-traveling as Bill & Ted. “I’m open to the idea of that [filming another installment of Bill & Ted]. I think it’s pretty surreal, playing Bill & Ted at 50. But we have a good story in that. You can see the life and joy in those characters, and I think the world can always use some life and joy,” Reeves said.
Enthusiastic fans may wonder exactly how far into the developing process a potential film may be at this point. Reeves explained, “There’s a story; there’s a script. We’re trying to get the dough together to make this crazy story. It’s a long story. There’s lots of subterfuge and conspiracy theories. There’s a whole thing. I might have to do one of those independent press, conspiracy, other-name kind of [statements] explaining why it hasn’t happened yet, because it’s pretty dark out there.”
In March of this year, Alex Winter spoke with MTV News about the possibility of a reunion. “There’s no drama. There’s no legal skirmish. There’s no nothing. There’s me, Keanu, [screenwriters] Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, the original core. We built a story. They wrote a script. We’re tinkering with the script to get it perfect. Then we will go get the money. Then we will shoot it. And that’s really all there is to it,” Winter said.
Reeves shared an interesting story about the famous character switch for the popular movie. “One day we’re going in; Alex and I both, once we heard that we got the roles, we thought we were playing the other guy’s role. So I thought I was going to be playing Bill and he thought he was going to be playing Ted. It was weird. We both went to wardrobe fittings and they told us we had the other roles, and then we said, ‘OK.’ ”
Reeves has been busy promoting the anticipated 47 Ronin; however, fans hope that there is still room for continuing the franchise that first aired in 1989.
