Alicia Rhett, best known for her role as India Wilkes in the film Gone With the Wind, died of natural causes on Friday at the age of 98. She was the oldest surviving cast member of the classic film, based upon the iconic book by Margaret Mitchell.

Rhett lived at the Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Community in Charleston, S.C. since 2002. A spokesperson for the community told the Associated Press via a statement that she passed away at about 5PM on Friday afternoon.

Also a painter, it has been said that Alicia Rhett sketched portraits of her costars during the filming of Gone With the Wind. She returned to painting and to her home in Charleston after no further roles became available for her in Hollywood. Some of her art is on display at the South Carolina State Library. It’s uncertain if any of the Gone With the Wind character’s portraits she reportedly did are displayed there.

With Alicia Rhett’s passing, only three of the major cast members remain. Olivia De Havilland played Melanie Wilkes. She is now 97 and lives in Paris. Mary Anderson played Southern belle Maybelle Merriweather. She is 93. 82-year-old Mickey Kuhn played the role of Ashley and Melanie Wilkes’ son Beau Wilkes.

2014 marks the 75th anniversary of Gone With the Wind.
