Sony Online Entertainment had a major hit on its hands in 2012 with the launch of PlanetSide 2 on the PC. The free-to-play shooter attracted casual and hardcore gamers alike with its combination solid shooting mechanics and approachable gameplay.

With the game entering its second year of operation, some may be wondering if SOE has any new content coming for the game. Well, that should be a pretty obvious yes, but the developers want to make it clear that 2014 is going to be the best year yet for Planetside 2.

The first big news of 2014 is that PlanetSide 2 will begin receiving weekly patches starting January 15. This will allow the team to more frequently address bugs and balance problems to keep the game running smoothly. The game will also be receiving at least two new content packs.

Perhaps the biggest news this year, however, is that PlanetSide 2 is coming to the PlayStation 4. The free-to-play shooter will remain completely intact with its move to the console.
