ABC’s “Good Morning America” co-host, Amy Robach, recently took control of her health by cutting her hair.

The 40-year-old appeared on the show Wednesday Jan. 15 with a new short hairstyle, in which she refers to as “taking control of something I have very little control of.”

Robach was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in October but announced her battle with the sickness in November. Following two chemotherapy sessions, she started to notice that her shoulder-length hair was falling out.

That’s when she made the decision to take the short route.

In a short heart-felt video, it shows Robach’s trip to the salon on the day of her transformation.

As the stylist cuts her hair, the TV host becomes pretty teary-eyed about her new look.

“I feel free. I feel empowered,” Robach said.

With this being her first hair cut, she decided that self-empowerment during this very emotional time is what will help her feel like she has some type of control over the cancer.

“We know in our line of work that appearance is important — and it’s important to anybody and everybody, really — and I decided I was going to take control of one thing away from the cancer, so I got my hair cut,” she said on GMA.

Robach also mentioned on the show how some women will refuse chemotherapy due to fear of loosing their hair. However, GMA’s co-host Robin Roberts, who is a cancer survivor herself, acknowledges how Robach will help to set an example for those women who are afraid.

“There are some women that will not have treatment because they don’t want to loose their hair,” said Roberts. “What you’re doing, what I see is that someone who is taking charge and someone who’s saying ‘I do want to be here’ and you are taking control…there’s a powerful message that you’re sending to so many.”

Robach has six more chemotherapy sessions to go. With all the emotional pain that comes with treatment, she says that this new haircut is like a fresh new chapter in her life.

“You know it’s a roller coaster, but I’m here and I’m going to stay her.”

Well, in the words of Martin Luther: “The hair is the richest ornament of women.” However, in this case, having complete control of how you feel about your life despite any adversary is the richest ornament anyone could ever possess.
