Queen Latifah may never forget the 56th annual Grammy Awards.

Although the biggest night in music turned out to be a memorable event for the honored nominees, they weren’t the only ones who would consider the night to be quite special.

Last night, the Queen presided over the marriages of 33 couples during the live broadcast of the 2014 Grammy Awards.

According to the Associated Press, Latifah, whose real name is Dana Owens, had to be legally sworn in by the state of California to officiate the ceremony.

“You can call me Queen Commish for a little longer,” she quipped backstage Sunday night.

However, the rapper-actress-talk show host did clarify that she is not an ordained minister so her privileges would expire at the stroke of 12. She also tweeted about the expiration of her ‘super powers’ asking if anyone else wanted to get married before the midnight hour.

“It was something I took very seriously,” she said. “That is someone’s life commitment to one another, you want to make sure you do it right. That’s what sunk in for me.”

The momentous wedding ceremony took place in the aisle of the Staples Center during hip-hop duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis‘ performance of their Grammy-nominated song “Same Love”.

The New York Times reports that the couples who were – gay, straight, old, young, of many races and many colors – came from all walks of life for the special event. So, the song was quite befitting as it became the unofficial anthem for marriage equality last year. It was also reported that Lewis’ sister Laura and her boyfriend Alex were among the couples who were married.

“To have your wedding in front of 100 million people is pretty momentous,” Latifah said. “I can say I was here and that will not leave me. I look forward to dashing off and signing all their wedding certificates.”

The Queen also tweeted her sentiments about the heart-warming opportunity.
