Kickstarter CEO Yancey Strickler took to the company blog over the weekend to announce that they had fallen victim to a hack–one that exposed some user info including email addresses, mailing address, phone numbers, and encrypted passwords.

Strickler makes a point to say that no credit card data was accessed by the hackers.

Kickstarter learned of the breach on Wednesday night, as law enforcement notified the company that hackers had gained access to customer data. Kickstarter says that they immediately began plugging the hole.

As a result of this breach, Kickstarter says that they have begun to implement new and improved security measures.

Strickler apologized for the inconvenience.

“We’re incredibly sorry that this happened. We set a very high bar for how we serve our community, and this incident is frustrating and upsetting. We have since improved our security procedures and systems in numerous ways, and we will continue to do so in the weeks and months to come. We are working closely with law enforcement, and we are doing everything in our power to prevent this from happening again,” said Strickler.

Although the company only has evidence of two accounts being compromised, they still suggest that all users change their passwords. If you have a Kickstarter account, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to follow these instructions.
