Have you seen the latest trailer for the upcoming season of Game of Thrones? I have and I must say that it looks promising.
Of course as a fan of the series (and someone who is impatiently waiting for George R.R. Martin to finish the next book…) it’s exciting to get a hint at what comes next. If you’d read the books, you know that a few major events go down this season.
If you haven’t read the books, I won’t spoil it for you. Like “The Red Wedding”, some things just have to be seen to get the fully experience. So brace yourselves…that’s all I’m going to say.
As for this latest trailer, it’s clear that everyone who survived the violent close of Season 3 is back.
In the trailer, we here young Arya Stark reciting the names of four individuals: Joffrey, Cersei, and Tywin Lannister, and the “Red Woman”. She says that she has trouble sleeping until she says these names as they are the names of people she intends to kill out of a need for vengeance.
“Vengeance” is the name of the trailer, leading us to wonder if Arya is successful in her quest. Or perhaps someone else with an ax to grind.
We see fan favorite Tyrion Lannister in shackles and then later a dungeon, where he tells someone off screen that if they’re looking for justice, they’ve come “to the wrong place”.
There’s also a glimpse of Sansa Stark in a boat. Do we dare hope she’s finally escaped the cruel Joffrey? Speaking of which, we keep getting glimpses of his marriage to the beautiful Margaery Tyrell. One wonders if she will fare any better than the hapless Sansa.
Finally there’s the Khaleesi, Daenerys Targaryen, who given the events that preceded The Game of Thrones series has one of the best cases for vengeance.
She also has dragons, which we get a brief look at, and who seem to have grown quite a bit.
She is shown consolidating her power and it seems she intends to at some point make life a living hell for the entirety of the population of Westeros.
There is a lot to look forward to in the next season, and I almost envy those who don’t know what to expect. Almost. Having experienced the “Red Wedding” and other stunning events in text before seeing it on screen, I am sort of glad I had some preparation.
Again…brace yourselves!
