3D printers are generally pretty small. The gold standard – the Makerbot Replicator 2 – has a build volume of 285x153x155mm. If you wanted to go big, the Objet1000 is there for you with its massive 1000x800x500mm build volume. If you wanted to go even bigger, it wasn’t really possible until now.

BigRep unveiled its latest 3D printer – the One – this week. It features a massive build volume of 1147x1000x1188mm, or 45x39x46 inches. With that kind of space, designers can build just about anything, including furniture.

A large build volume isn’t the only thing the BigRep One has going for it. The printer also supports FDM 3D printing out of the box, and even has optional support for CNC milling. The 3D printer extruder supports a number of materials, including PLA, ABS, PVA, HDPE, Nylon, TPE, Laywood and Laybrick.

So, how much is the BigRep One going to cost you? Like the Objet1000, the One comes in at a very expensive $39,000. This is still pretty cheap for the professional looking to prototype large parts so the One will find itself a home in many engineering labs. As for the amateur wanting to go large, you might want to look into the $2,500 Gigabot – it has a 600x600x600mm build volume.
