Former childhood actress and present-day fashion designer Mary-Kate Olsen just got engaged to 44 year old Olivier Sarkozy, a French Banker she’s been dating for two years.
With Olsen being 17 years Sarkozy’s junior, some thought the couple wouldn’t last and that eventually Olsen would want someone closer to her age. And since Sarkozy already has two children, ages 10 and 12 from a previous marriage, it was very easy to believe that Olsen wouldn’t want to be a step mom at the young age of 27.
But just the opposite occurred. Olsen really took to Sarkozy’s kids and even took on the step mom roll far before the two were engaged. She’s even made Sarkozy step up his daddy skills a little more.
“Mary-Kate has made him a better father,” said a Us Weekly source. “She remembers all the kids’ special events.”
And the feeling is mutual, said the source, because the kids love Olsen too, and her own family believes Sarkozy is a great match for her. “Mary-Kate’s family thinks Olivier is the best thing to happen to her. They love him,” the source said.
As of now, there has been no wedding date announced and no other details were given about how Sarkozy proposed, and it’s likely it’ll stay that way since Olsen hardly ever reveals any information about her romantic relationships. However, she does speak about the affection she has for her twin sister Ashley.
In a 2010 interview, Olsen said the sisters lean on each other during tough times, which was the case many years ago when Ashley was diagnosed with an eating disorder. At first, it was difficult for Ashley to talk about the eating disorder with her sister, said Olsen.
“I think it’s really important to be able to talk when something’s wrong,” she said. “I learned at a really young age that if you don’t talk about it, it can drive you insane….It’s really helpful to have another half; we’re constantly checking in with each other.”
