The two might have not been seeing eye to eye recently, which is why last night’s performance was so surprising.

On the Arsenio Hall Show Thursday night, rapper and producer Kanye West jumped on stage to perform a song with Rick Ross and protege Big Sean, and the performance was surprising for a couple of reasons.

For one, West doesn’t really like doing a lot of TV performances, so any time he shows up on late night TV all eyes are usually glued to the screen. And two, Hall said some pretty controversial remarks about West in the past, and eluded to the fact that he doesn’t really care for him much.

In December of 2013, the late night talk show host took West to task because the rapper wrongfully claimed that Hall was fired from his original show back in the 90s.

“Like usual, Kanye’s premise confuses the facts,” said Hall at a Grammy Awards event. “Therefore everything has to be thrown out….I just left my show. The White man didn’t do nothing this time, bruh. Save that for when the White man do do something.”

In a radio interview West said network executives booted Hall out of his 90s talk show and somehow it had to do with race, but Hall said nothing is further from the truth.

In addition, the 58 year old said he hated the fact that West has a song with the term “slave” in it, and feels nobody in modern day music should ever feel like a slave, since it takes away from the suffering that real slaves experienced.

“I hate the word ‘slave’ used in songs,” Hall said. “Do you know what the word is? Do you know what the word is all about? Nobody can use ‘slave’ in pop culture. If you’re in the music business you shouldn’t f— with that word.”

But apparently, West had no hard feelings and put on a stellar performance along with Ross and Big Sean. Ross was at the Arsenio Hall Show to promote his latest album Mastermind, which was released this past Tuesday.
