It is no secret that Sharyl Attkisson and her colleagues at CBS have had a dwindling relationship. After several months of known frustration, Attkisson has finally resigned from her role as a CBS Network correspondent.

Sharyl released a statement regarding her departure on Monday. “It’s been one of life’s great privileges to work at CBS News, and I’m sincerely grateful for the many opportunities I’ve had,” she said. Politico reported that Attkisson had been discussion getting out of her contract with CBS News President David Rhodes since April 2013.

CBS also issued a statement, via spokeswoman Sonya McNair. “CBS News veteran Sharyl Attkisson is leaving the news division to pursue other endeavors. We appreciate her many contributions and we wish her well,” McNair said.

Attkisson joined CBS News over two decades ago, in September 1993, as a co-anchor Up to the Minute. She later became a Washington-based correspondent in January 1995. Sharyl’s frustration derived from the network’s “liberal bias” and lack of dedication to investigative journalism. “It’s no secret that Sharyl has been unhappy about CBS’s lack of interest in investigative reporting, especially when it comes to stories about the Obama administration,” an insider close to Sharyl said.

Network analyst Andrew Tyndall revealed some startling facts about Attkisson’s air time over the past few years. From 2007-2009, Sharyl averaged two-and-a-half hours of on-air time each year, and was among the top 20 most prominent reporters . However, in 2013, Sharly only clocked 54 minutes of on-air time on The CBS Evening News, and had fallen out of the top 20. “She was obviously being sidelined,” Tyndall said.

Attkison announced to her fans and followers that she had resigned, via Twitter. Her message was short and sweet and read: “I have resigned from CBS.”
