Country music legend Mel Tillis, 81, is home after being released from the hospital following heart surgery last weekend.

His daughter, Pam Tillis, released statement Saturday about the legendary music star’s imminent release.

“Dad is doing great and is happy to be leaving the hospital in time to catch today’s Florida vs. Missouri game,” she said.

It is unknown why Mel Tillis had to have heart surgery. Posts by the singer only said he had a “routine heart surgery this past weekend.”

He says he plans on releasing new music later this year, and hopes to be back on the road soon.

Tillis belongs to the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry. He has recorded more than 60 albums and has had 35 Top Ten singles.

He won the CMA Awards’ most coveted award, Entertainer of the Year, and is known for his speech impediment, which disappears when he sings.

Tillis’s biggest hits include I Ain’t Never, Good Woman Blues, and Coca-Cola Cowboy.
