When editor-in-chief of Self magazine Lucy Danziger received a lot of backlash for Photoshopping a picture of Kelly Clarkson in 2009, one would assume she would have learned her lesson about angering her readers, but that’s not the case.

This time around Danziger is in hot water for making fun of a cancer survivor.

A woman by the name of Monika Allen has a company called Glam Runner. She makes tutus for adults and little girls, and is also a brain cancer survivor. Sometimes she chooses to wear those tutus while running in marathons.

Apparently, Danziger doesn’t like either tutus or adults wearing them, because she placed a photo of Allen wearing one in a section of the magazine called the “BS Meter,” and wrote this snarky little comment:

“A racing tutu epidemic has struck NYC’s Central Park, and it’s all because people think these froufrou skirts make you run faster. Now, if you told us they made people run from you faster, maybe we would believe it,” read the comment.

Allen said she felt tricked, because she gave permission to Self magazine to use the photo, but she had no idea it would be used in that way. And she said Danziger disrespected not only her, but all people fighting cancer. Allen also explained why she wore the tutu in the published photo.

“The reason we were wearing those outfits is because this was my first marathon running with brain cancer,” she said. “I feel like we were misled in providing the picture. Had I known how the picture was going to be used, I wouldn’t have wanted to send it.”

Danziger quickly apologized and said she felt horrible for the mistake and she didn’t know that Allen was a cancer survivor. “I am personally mortified,” she said. “I had no idea that Monika had been through cancer. It was an error. It was a stupid mistake. We shouldn’t have run the item.”
