Back in January, YouTuber NicksplosionFX compiled every single NES game opening into a single video. As expected, it was nearly 3 hours long and featured 709 titles. You would think its successor – the SNES – would have fewer games, but you’d be wrong.
NicksplosionFX is back with the openings for every single game released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It also includes every game that was exclusive to the Super Nintendo in Europe and the Super Famicom in Japan. The Super Nintendo saw 784 games released for it over its lengthy life cycle. The Super Famicom got even more with 1442 titles plus an additional 231 titles released via Nintendo’s Japan only Sattelaview service.
As you might expect, the below video is incredibly long. Not only were there more games, but SNES games often had more intricate openings that lasted longer than your average NES game. For example, the very first game, and a personal favorite, – Super Baseball 2020 – has an opening that lasts nearly 30 seconds. Other games, like Final Fantasy VI and Donkey Kong Country, had similarly long openings.
Now then, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go bust out my Super Nintendo and play some Donkey Kong Country 2.
