Rob Lowe’s second memoir, Love Life, was released on Tuesday, and the actor has been doing the press circuit to discuss the book.

In the book Lowe shares more wild stories that didn’t have the chance to make it into his first memoir, Stories I Only Tell My Friends. In Love Life, Lowe tells stories about marriage, parenting, missing his chance with Madonna, his time in rehab and being sober, and being the first celebrity with a sex tape, just to name a few.

Recently Lowe spoke with The New York Times about his latest memoir, and he revealed that his good looks were at times a deterrent for casting directors. “There’s this unbelievable bias and prejudice against quote-unquote good-looking people, that they can’t be in pain or they can’t have rough lives or be deep or interesting. They can’t be any of the things that you long to play as an actor. I’m getting to play those parts now and loving it. When I was a teen idol, I was so g—–n pretty I wouldn’t have taken myself seriously,” said Lowe.

Because of Lowe’s good looks, he has enjoyed playing characters that involve some sort of physical transformation.

In the same article, Lowe’s pretty face came up again when asked if viewers were surprised he was funny on Parks and Rec and Californication. Lowe’s reply, “Again, there’s a historical bias that good-looking people are not funny.”

Lowe was also featured on Sunday’s episode of Oprah Prime to discuss his latest memoir. While speaking with Oprah, Lowe revealed that Justin Bieber was another topic in his book. Lowe said he had “tremendous empathy” for the young singer. “He makes really good music, he does, but I think he knows the dark secret, and the dark secret is 80 percent of his audience doesn’t give a s–t about the music. And he knows it. It bums him out. They care about lemming-think, and their girlfriends and who’s oohing and aahing and screaming. It has nothing to do with what he’s doing as an artist. He is the guy who is standing in front at a moment that they’re going through a developmental thing. It’s natural, it’s all great, but if it wasn’t him, it would be somebody else, like it was me,” said Lowe.
