Fans got a special treat while watching The Tonight Show on Tuesday when Cat Stevens showed up to perform a couple of his classic songs. Following his conversion to Islam, Stevens changed his name to Yusuf Islam, and has released albums under that name since.

The singer is set to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame on Thursday, and showed why with his performance on the show this week. He was responsible for many hits throughout the 1970s, and has several songs that continue to get people to sing along.

Cat Stevens’ music was the basis for the soundtrack of the classic film Harold and Maude, and has also insipired a number of cover versions of his songs, including “The First Cut Is The Deepest,” which was made even more famous by both Sheryl Crow, and Rod Stewart.

“The First Cut Is The Deepest” is one of the two songs that he played while on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, along with his classic “Wild World.” He also perfromed a verison of the poetic song “The Wind,” which only the studio audience was able to see at the time, and was later posted online.

Cat Stevens’ big week will be continuing on Thursday, as he is finally being inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, where he will be performing again. Yusuf may be accepting his past career a bit more with the songs he chose to sing, but he still hasn’t had an official concert in New York despite the 2006 private show at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

It was a special night on The Tonight Show to feature a veteran musician such as Cat Stevens, and he played a memorable performance days before his Hall Of Fame introduction. It seems that he still has it in him to play his classics, and is still one of the greatest songwriters around.

In addition to Cat Stevens, Fallon featured the musical talents of Academy-Award winner Anne Hathaway, and the two of them performed their own versions of hip hop songs including Snoop Dogg’s “Gin N Juice” and 50 Cent’s “In Da Club.”
