Some brides and grooms incorporate clever themes into their wedding ceremonies. It may be a beach theme or a country-western setting or even a rustic motif. When Judy Greer said “I do” to her husband, television producer Dean Johnsen back in 2011, the pair celebrated their big day with a Planet of the Apes theme.

During an interview on Conan, the actress said, “We had a chimp husband-and-wife cake topper at our wedding. At the cocktail hour, we played ‘Planet of the Apes’ and ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ on two separate televisions in the bar area. And on the wedding gift I bought him, a vintage Rolex, I had it engraved, ‘Ape shall not kill ape.’ I was then told that, technically, it’s ‘Ape shall never kill ape,’ but there wasn’t enough space for engraving purposes.”

Talk about being totally Planet of the Apes-obsessed.

Now in a Hollywood twist of fate, Greer is starring in the franchise’s newest installment that will be released this summer, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. She got advice on how to play an ape from several ape-gurus while on the set, “Andy Serkis is the master, but Terry Notary is the godfather, so he taught me everything I know. I got there late in the process, so I learned a lot on set from my amazing fellow apes. They were helping me out — when we were waiting around for set-ups, I’d be, ‘Can we practice quad walking? Can I get my half-crutches? Is this good?’ ‘No, keep your butt down!’”

You can check out Greer and the latest installment of the franchise in theaters on July 11. The tagline for the film is, “Survivors of the simian plague trigger an all-out war between humanity and Caesar’s growing forces.” Also set to star in the movie are Keri Russell and Gary Oldman.
