The next time you see sky, it’ll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it’ll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the bestest stuff for us. But right now they gotta do what’s right for them, ’cause it’s their time. Their time, up there. Down here it’s our time. It’s our time down here. That’s all over the second we ride up Troy’s bucket.
Goonies never say die!
Children of the 1980s rejoice, one of the most beloved films of the decade is finally getting its long overdue sequel. The Goonies 2 is reportedly in the works. And not only are director Richard Donner and producer Steven Spielberg involved, but the original cast may be on board for the project as well.
Richard Donner recently told TMZ, “Hopefully we’re going to get this done, period. Spielberg came up with the idea of doing a sequel after 30 years. You don’t do [‘The Goonies 2’] without him, and he came up with another storyline and he’s right on.”
The Goonies was written by Spielberg and Chris Columbus. It starred Sean Astin as the asthmatic Mikey, his older brother Brand played by Josh Brolin, and a group of eccentric kids from the Goon Docks neighborhood. Mikey and Brand are being forced to move because of money problems, so in order to save their home from foreclosure, the group sets out to find a pirate treasure.
The exact nature of the sequel’s plot is still unknown, however, all reports indicate that Spielberg has already worked out the storyline. Will it involve a modern day adventure with Mikey, Data, Mouth, and Chunk as adults? Will it be more about their own kids? There is even speculation that the film will be an R-rated sequel that will directly target the adults who loved the movie as kids.
Of course some fans of the film are excited about the prospects of a sequel, while others would rather just let the original stand on its own and feel a followup would be sacrilege.
