The suspect in a Dayton, OH shooting that injured 1 has been identified as Neil Moore and is in policy custody. The shooting took place Monday afternoon at a Veterans Affairs hospital. According to Dayton spokesman Bryan Taulbee, the shooter had no accomplices and was apprehended when he was later dropped off at another hospital by his sister. Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said Moore was seeking “psychiatric services” at the hospital.

Moore is a former employee of the Veterans Affairs hospital. He shot the victim, Paul Burnside, 61 and current employee of the Veterans Affairs hospital, in the basement break room during a scuffle. According to reports, Moore entered the hospital with gun in hand and several shots were fired, although only Burnside was injured. He is being treated at the VA ER, and the injuries are not life-threatening. It is currently unclear if the two involved knew one another, though they did at one time work at the same facility.

The hospital was put on lock down and subsequently evacuated. SWAT teams were deployed to locate the shooter and surrounding roads were blocked off. Law enforcement officials are seeking a search warrant for the suspect’s vehicle, which was located and is purported to contain the gun. The hospital updated their Facebook status at 12:41 PM to read “Due to a current developing situation, the Dayton VAMC will not be taking any scheduled appointments.” The hospital will remain closed to new patients until a thorough search is completed. Current patients will continue to receive treatment.
