Alanis Morissette has penned a new song exclusively for the congressional campaign of Marianne Willaimson, an independent candidate running for California’s 33rd district. The song, entitled “Today,” attempts “to capture the passion, mission, activism, deep humanity and tenderness of Marianne, the new political sensibility she represents and the consciousness that produced it,” said Morissette. “I love this song. I love this woman, and I love a world that would vote for her.”

Williamson agrees with Morissette’s assessment of the ditty. “Alanis Morissette has produced a masterpiece. I have never heard a song more powerfully describe this moment in our history, or more lovingly call forth our generation’s genius from the ashes of our pain. With her inimitable musical alchemy, Alanis has provided an anthem for our audacious quest to get America back on track,” said Williamson.

Along with their unbridled enthusiasm for one another/this campaign song, Williamson and Morissette also share many celebrity friends who happen to live in the very district where Williamson is campaigning. Besides Morissette, Williamson has been endorsed by Nicole Richie, Eva Longoria, and Jane Lynch. This only makes sense, as the 33rd district is home to celeb-heavy areas Malibu, Bell Air, and Beverly Hills.

Besides having a ton of famous pals and the coolest sounding campaign song out there (not a very difficult accomplishment), what are Williamson’s qualifications? Well, she has written 10 books, six of which have been on the New York Times best-seller list. According to Williamson, this gives her “a right to be a member of Congress.” Oh, and one of them is called “Age of Miracles: Embracing the New Midlife.” And Oprah seems to like her. I’m satisfied!
