Yahoo announced the release of a new Yahoo Mail Android app to follow the recently launched iOS version. This includes new news, search, weather, sports, video, and Flickr features.
In a Tumblr post, Yahoo Mail senior product manager Andrew Molyneux writes:
A couple of weeks back when we launched the new Yahoo Mail for iPhone, our goal was to put all the information you care about right at your fingertips. In addition to checking email more frequently, we’re seeing that iPhone users are spending more time in the app – browsing news, sports, videos and much more.
Beginning today, we’re bringing that new experience – with the same one-tap access to personalized, real-time news and information – to Android. Go ahead and check email, read the news, search, look up the forecast, catch up on sports, watch videos and browse Flickr, all in the same place, without the hassle of switching between apps.
The app includes the ability to swipe left or right or tap on an icon in the corner to let you move between your inbox, news stream, and Yahoo Today. The Today icon shows the weather, sports scores, news headlines, popular videos, and Flickr photos.
The app is available in Google Play. The News and Yahoo Today features will roll out over the coming days.
