Those of you who said that the marriage between Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas wouldn’t last have been vindicated.

I hope the 18 year wait was worth it!

Griffith and Banderas will be parting ways, but with none of the drama typical of Hollywood divorces.

Instead, the two will go the “non-confrontational and respectful” route.

On Friday, the pair released a joint statement about the impending separation:

We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost 20-year marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together.

Even though the couple have spoken to the press together about their intentions, People magazine revealed that it was 56-year-old Griffith who filed for divorce from her 53-year-old spouse.

Griffith is also seeking spousal support from Banderas and physical custody of their 17-year-old daughter Stella. Banderas is expected to be granted visitation rights.

This is a curious request; their teen daughter will be legally an adult in a matter of months.

It’s not known exactly when the couple decided to separate, though it is believed that the two are parting on genuinely pleasant terms.

No doubt they are trying to make the situation as easy to bear as possible for their daughter.

This is Banderas’s second marriage. The actor’s first marriage to actress Ana Leza ended thanks in large part to the affair that he was having with soon to be ex-wife Griffith.

Despite the image of solidarity being presented to the press, rumors of infidelity are flying, particularly on the part of Banderas.

This split will mark the end of Griffith’s fourth marriage.

She was previously married to Steven Bauer. Don Johnson was able to get Griffith to walk down the aisle not once, but twice.

Johnson and Griffith are the parents of fledgling actress Dakota Johnson. She will be starring in the upcoming 50 Shades Of Grey.
