Chelsea Handler, the star of E!’s late-night talk show Chelsea Lately, has signed a deal with the streaming video service Netflix.

“The Internet has disrupted many of the conventions of traditional television and together with Chelsea Handler, Netflix is looking forward to reimagining the late night talk show for the on-demand generation, starting with the late night part,” Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement.

“Chelsea has built a huge following on tour, on nightly TV and through her best-selling books, and we can’t wait to introduce her breathtakingly honest and irreverent voice to our global membership,” Sarandos added.

Chelsea has made it known that she has not particularly enjoyed working with E!, and will leave Chelsea Lately when the contract expires in August 2014. She explained that she wanted to take on something completely different if she was going to stay in the industry, and that is why she chose to make the deal with Netflix.

“If I was going to continue working in this industry, I knew I had to do something outside the box to keep myself interested,” Handler said. “I’m more excited than I’ve been in awhile, and the team at Netflix is the most forward thinking, alert group I’ve sat down with in ages.”

Most of Netflix’ television shows are released with multiple episodes at once, which has proven to be very popular with their subscribers. While Netflix hasn’t revealed any details regarding the timing and scheduling of Chelsea’s new show, they did say that it would take on a more traditional approach.

Per the deal, Handler will star in and produce a talk show, a stand-up special that will air on October 10, and four docu-comedy specials for the streaming television service. Netflix currently has 35 million subscribers in the United States and 13 million subscribers throughout the world.
