For many people, a pet is a member of the family. If you like to travel with your pets, you know the importance of making sure they are comfortable and happy at all times.

Sometimes it can be easy to travel with a pet, but other times it can be a real nightmare. If you are planning an upcoming trip with your pet, consider some of these tips to make it easier for the both of you.

Pet Friendly Hotels
One of the hardest aspects of traveling with pets is finding a hotel that will allow them. Some hotels want to charge huge fees and deposits to allow your pets in the room, and others just aren’t set up to be pet-friendly.

Before you start your trip with a pet, call ahead and book the hotel. Most hotels advertise if they allow pets and offer the cost on their websites.

Some hotels may even be nice enough to not charge you extra to bring your pet along with you.

Bring A Kennel
Some pets never have to use a kennel, but when you are traveling, a kennel may be needed. Some hotels will require that your pet stay in a kennel while in the room. Some pets also prefer to ride in kennels while traveling.

The kennel makes them feel safe and secure and if your pet has an accident, the kennel will make it easier to clean.

Exercise
Remember, pets need exercise too. Just like you need to get out and stretch your legs on long car rides, so does your pet. Look for rest areas with pet areas so your pet can get some exercise and use the bathroom.

Some even have pet playgrounds or dog parks where you can really let your pet burn off some energy.

Comfort
It might seem like your pet travels well, but some animals can get homesick. Be sure to bring a favorite toy, blanket or pet bed for your pet. Always make sure your pet is getting plenty to drink and eat during your trip too. Some pets can become distracted by the change of scenery or even depressed and refuse to eat or drink.

Traveling with your pet can be fun and it doesn’t have to be stressful. Good luck with your next vacation.
