It seems like everyone just assumed that Paula Patton left husband Robin Thicke after twenty years of marriage because he was cheating. However, according to Thicke, that isn’t the case.

Thicke was out promoting his new album Paula on New York’s Hot 97 radio station on Tuesday. Of course, the album title is just one of the many different public ways that the crooner has tried to get his wife back.

The R&B singer discussed the issues of his marriage but insisted that infidelity was not part of the problem, “[Cheating] is not why we’re apart. We’re apart because we just couldn’t be together anymore for a while. There’s a hundred different reasons, there isn’t just one. There’s a long list…I changed, and I got a little too selfish, a little too greedy and little too full of myself.”

Prior to 2013’s Blurred Lines, Thicke never had a number one Billboard single. That summer, Blurred Lines was everywhere. No one could escape the sexy risque video or the catchy hook. It spent twelve weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and easily clinched the top spot on Billboard’s 2013 Songs of Summer list.

Thicke released five albums before Blurred Lines, and while he was a mainstay on the R&B charts, he never crossed over into the mainstream until 2013.

The 37-year-old also discussed the music on Paula, “The album is exactly what happens when you lose the love of your life and you’re trying to figure it out in your head. How am I going to move on and get through it all? We just weren’t happy together anymore and I still had so much I wanted to apologize for, and things I wanted to take responsibility for, so that’s pretty much what the album’s about.”

Thicke does see a light at the end of the tunnel. “If you’ve been together that long, you kinda became adults together instead of being adults and then meeting. But maybe a year or two off, we’ll become our own people without each other and then it will be meant to be.”
