Zooey Deschanel is one of the most well-rounded celebrities working today; she’s an actress, a producer, a musician, a fashion designer, and a businesswoman who started a very successful blog with two of her friends. She’s also a self-described feminist who really hates being asked whether or not she wants kids.

“Like every woman is dying to give birth! I don’t think so. Nobody asks guys that,” she said in a recent InStyle interview after being thrown the question. “You go into a supermarket and every tabloid is like, ‘Pregnant and Alone!’ Stuck in this 1950s ideal of how a woman should live her life. That’s not something that defines me at all. … This brings out the fiery feminist in me.”

Deschanel also spoke about all those jobs she has, saying she’s almost a target for ridicule in the media because no one expects to see one person with so many different interests….especially not a famous person.

“The thing that’s funny about our society is that people love compartmentalizing. Love. It. You almost get mocked for wanting to do more than one thing,” she said.

The New Girl actress says she doesn’t like to reveal much about her personal life–she’s dating screenwriter Jamie Linden–and that may be because of the media frenzy over her divorce from Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard two years ago.

“You have to be careful what you reveal. You invite people in and can’t kick them out,” she said.
